Of the 13 municipalities of Camagüey, the 22nd Municipal Conference of the Cuban Workers’ Union (CTC) has already been held in about six and the delegates to the provincial meeting have been selected.

Everything seems to be going smoothly and at a good pace, but will the main objectives be achieved? To corroborate this, Workers spoke with Ana Iris Hidalgo Conde, a member of the provincial secretariat of the workers’ organization.

As the leader explained, although it seemed that “the process was moving quickly, everything was very well organized. The first four municipalities selected, for example, met several requirements related to the cadre policy and compliance with efficiency indicators. Meanwhile, the rest were positioned as these parameters improved.

“So far everything has been positive. From the base, concerns and suggestions have been raised about the functioning of the union, the quality of the union assemblies, the process of the Congress, and the commitment to continue strengthening the workers’ organization has prevailed.

“Those present have been able to evaluate what has been done in recent years and agree on what remains to be done and of course things related to the economy have had a leading role. It is in that sense that municipal delegates and guests talk about local development and its possibilities, as well as the union’s role in these future projections.”

In the municipal conferences, as Hidalgo Conde noted, elements of the functioning of the labor organization, its role in the economic boost, the link with new economic actors, food production and the importance of National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers.

This process, as the union member pointed out, contributes to “strengthening the CTC, since we have renewed more than 60% of the union leaders, so we have more capable and committed cadres for our organization.”

There are still several assemblies to be held, but the important thing will not be compliance with the schedule, but rather what is discussed, built and agreed upon. Achieving a better worker organization, which takes center stage in each important process of the economy, depends on each worker and the commitment adopted at the Municipal Conferences.
