A tragic traffic accident left four people dead and 13 injured on the road that connects Montería with Planeta Rica, in Córdoba. The accident occurred when a company bus Brasilia Express collided with a ambulance from the San Jorge de Ayapel hospital in the Loma Azul area of Montería.

The accident took place on the evening of Tuesday, June 25. According to initial reports, darkness and excessive speed could have contributed to the accident, although these hypotheses have not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
Local witnesses suggest that a motorcycle may have been involved, as both vehicles tried to avoid it. Another theory is that the ambulance may have overtaken in a prohibited area, causing a head-on collision with the bus.
Major Elkin Morantes, sectional chief of Traffic of the Córdoba Police, confirmed that among the deceased is Ignacio Vargas, who was driving the bus and three ambulance crew members, including, the patient they were transporting.
He also pointed out that when the road accident was attended toThirteen people were referred to health centers in the municipality of Planeta Rica, of which five have been discharged.
The accident, which occurred at kilometer 2+600 of the road, also left 13 people injured; Eight of them were transferred to medical centers in Planeta Rica, of which five have already been discharged. The collision was so violent which caused the ambulance to catch fire and moved the bus several meters from the point of impact.
The Expreso Brasilia company reported that The bus was carrying 41 passengers bound for Bogotá. Authorities are still investigating the exact causes of the accident, and one of the initial hypotheses suggests that the ambulance may have crossed into the oncoming lane while trying to overtake a motorcycle.
In a statement, Expreso Brasilia expressed its condolences: “The company expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of the driver Ignacio Vargas, originally from Bogotá, who was a very committed worker and loved by all his colleagues. Likewise, to the families of the three people who were in the ambulance and who unfortunately lost their lives in this accident.”
The company also assured that they are collaborating with the authorities to clarify the events and are monitoring the progress of the injured people.
