The second best racket in Colombia, Nicolás Mejía, continues his winning streak in the Challenger Open Tour of tennis in Ibagué, by defeating the Argentine Tomas Farjat 6-2 and 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

The tennis player expressed his satisfaction with the result, highlighting the difficulty of the match: “Well, I’m very happy to have won the match, a very tough match. A guy who served very hard.”

The Colombian pointed out the importance of the first set to establish his dominance in the game: «Despite having started from here down, in the first game he surprised me with some somewhat strange plays, some drops that went very well and well, you can come back very well, break two or three times in the first set and be able to win. That first set was key.

In the second set, Mejía maintained his level of play: «Then I think I kept serving well. I endured a very tough game. And the truth is that I am very happy to have taken the game forward.”

Regarding his next challenges in the tournament, the ‘cafetero’ tennis player stated: «There are matches coming up like everyone else, they are very difficult. From the first round, obviously, I’m already in the semi-finals. And it’s not the only thing, this gets more difficult.

On his next opponent, he commented: “My opponent is also coming off a very good week in Bolivia, so he’s coming with confidence. So I’ll have to be like I was today or even better to have my chances, play good tennis and hopefully make it to the final.”

Finally, he thanked the local public for their support: «I really hope that tomorrow they can support me so that together we can move on to a new final. Playing in Colombia is incredible. The people, the truth is, who are accompanying me in a spectacular way.

This Friday afternoon, the Colombian tennis player will be looking for a place in the grand final of the championship and will face the Ecuadorian Álvaro Guillén Meza.
