The radicals from the east of the province organized a meeting for this Saturday at 10, which will be the starting point to resume the debate on the direction that the opposition party should take in the face of so much dispersion. The meeting is driven by the mayor of Ancasti, Rodolfo Santillán, the only opposition municipality still standing in the east of Catamarca. According to reports, the scenario could mark the return of historic leaders of the UCR such as former senator Ricardo Boggio and former deputy Víctor Luna.

National deputy Francisco Monti, national senator Flavio Fama, mayors, provincial legislators and authorities of the Provincial Committee were invited to the meeting. The plenary will put into debate what direction the party should take since there are sectors that are closer to the libertarians today; others who believe that we must begin to create another type of alliance like the one proposed by the mayor of the Capital, Gustavo Saadi, who called it the “Catamarcan Pact”; another sector that maintains that the UCR should maintain its principles and walk alone, among other positions in dance. There are also those who miss the alliance that once was Together for Change, with the UCR, the PRO and the Civic Coalition.

“The concern arose from leaders of the Ancasti department with leaders from La Paz, asking that we had to get together, see each other’s faces and see the common denominators,” said Randolfo Piñero, president of the Ancasti Departmental Committee.

The meeting will be in the town of El Taco and will be a kind of spiritual retreat for the radicals since they will be far from urban centers.

“It aims to address the problems of the departments, there are leaders who want to propose modifications to the Organic Charter. It tends towards unity and strengthening the party. From here we have always worked for the UCR so that it is above the lines,” he said. Pinero.

Sectors

Another point that the UCR hopes to resolve is the large number of lines that make up the party. There are more than 14 sectors and there are those who consider that this atomization was harmful.

“In the last elections the existence of 14 internal lines did not lead to anything. It led us to disintegrate and we have gone backwards, I believe that the UCR has to be above the lines,” he added.

The relationship between mayors and the provincial government and the closeness of some legislators to the ruling party will also be present in the debate, to the point that they managed to obtain permanent positions for their relatives. In this sense, the main source of information will be the multimillion-dollar contributions received by several municipal leaders and published in the Official Gazette.

However, the event organizers are trying to avoid the event being a place of settling scores.

“Those of us who have party responsibilities have to strive to find a direction and that direction be one of unity to return to the time of enjoying our party,” the Ancasteño leader hoped in radio statements.

The president of the Provincial Committee, Alfredo Marchioli, endorsed the invitation from the east as a proposal to strengthen radicalism.
