Misha and Jirkafrom the Czech Republic, are a couple of environmental educators who They are dedicated to collecting garbage around the world. Now, They are located in Colombia and they have gone viral for the contribution they have made towards cleaning up the country.

“In colombia, Around 25,000 tons of solid waste are produced per dayof which only 13 percent are recovered and reintegrated into the production cycle and seven percent are recovered and marketed by professional recyclers,” indicates the NGO Greenpeace.

A lot of This garbage contaminates public spacesstreets, forests, parks and other places in cities. Some people throw it on the ground instead of depositing it in the designated bins.

However, this does not only happen in Colombia. Pollution is a global problem. For this reason, Misha and Jirka travel the world with the purpose of cleaning and raising awareness about the importance of taking care of the planet.

They have collected more than 16,200 kilograms of garbage in 15 countries and with the help of more than 1,500 volunteers.

Previously, they visited Central American countries such as the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Belize, Costa Rica and Panama, among others. Now, the couple’s most recent goal is travel South America with their project and began the journey in Colombia.

They arrived in the country on February 6 and have already visited several places. They are currently in Bogotá.

We are forming an alliance with Bogota residents committed to protecting their environment and we organized something very cool together, because this is what is needed all over the world: acting from every corner,” they wrote on social media.

Viral images of the environmentalists’ tour of the city show a large amount of garbage. From used sanitary pads to condoms and much more trash which was found in the streets, sewers and green areas.

“I want Bogotá without garbage on the ground,” said the woman. “That’s why I bend my back to set an example,” the man continued.

In the end, They collected more than four kilograms of waste and invited citizens to join their initiative.

On another occasion, They went to Monserrate with three volunteers to clean up the trash on the trailalso totaled more than four kilograms. Inside these, they found papers, napkins, cans and bottles.

Misha and Jirka too They have prepared clean-up meetings around the city. On June 25, they visited the Simón Bolivar Park and on June 29 they will be in the Tingua Azul wetland. The Czechs are responsible for providing the gloves and bags to carry out the activity.

On their social networks, under the username ‘verdederos’, they upload information about future events, the registration process and data about all the garbage they have collected.
