A complex scenario faces the inhabitants of the Magallanes region, due to the lack of water as a result of the low temperatures that have frozen the pipes, something that the President Gabriel Boric.

This was acknowledged during a visit to the construction site of the Punta Delgada Community Care Center, in San Gregorio, where he admitted not having been able to shower.

“How many of those who came from Punta Arenas were unable to shower today? Are there many? I include myself,” said President Boric, laughing.

However, he explained that he was not able to shower “not because he was lazy, but because the water was cut off in an important part of the city due to the frost.”

Let us remember that, as recognized by the manager of Aguas Magallanes, Christian Adema, The situation in Punta Arenas is complex due to the low temperatures in the area.

“I have been working on this for 36 years and I have never seen the level of destruction that this climate emergency is generating,” El Pingüino noted daily.

“The drinking water situation in Punta Arenas is complex. During these 10 days of climate emergency we have managed the drinking water system through pressure management, but we have now reached a situation where the demand, which is 55 million liters, compared to 32 on a normal day, means that we are absolutely shooting up with the city’s consumption.”

However, the executive was quick to clarify that the problem is not in production, but in distribution, in connection with the cold, which has resulted in “a large number of breakdowns, start-ups with severe problems, where water is escaping,” confirming “consumption restrictions.”

In fact, there have been water supply cuts of approximately 10 hours, which would allow the ponds to be restored. Meanwhile, 25 repair crews are deployed on the streets, with more than 100 workers trying to assess and repair what was destroyed.
