Aromas del Viento is a coffee that brings together the unbreakable spirit of José Raimundo Cerón, a farmer who entered the world of specialty coffees with a couple of books from the National Federation of Coffee Growers, just to show the young people of the municipality of Colón Génova, of Nariño, that there was a different path to take.

“I started as a substitute teacher at the IE Santa Teresita de Altaquer and I bought a couple of chickens for breeding out of my own pocket and then I started with the coffee business in the David Bajo area, on the La Esperanza farm where I grow Caturra, Castillo and Colombia varieties on two hectares,” says Cerón.

Thanks to his perseverance, he founded his own brand in 2017, surprising everyone. The neighbors of Cerón asked him who had taught him to make such good coffee, to which he replied that it was thanks to those books he read and applied 10 years ago.

“At first I helped my neighbors produce specialty coffees. Then I went to the center of town to sell them in bags for a thousand pesos. Then I made the jump to the coffee fairs in Nariño and was able to consolidate the brand,” explains José Raimundo Cerón.

Without giving up

When everyone thought that Aromas del Viento coffee had reached its best version, Cerón entered the National Coffee School and began to experiment with different fermentation times, as well as styles: washed, honey or natural, which offers a variety of flavors and attributes to the coffee.

“I make blends between the varieties I have to offer coffee lovers different flavors and textures in the mouth. I have floral, citrus, sweet coffees like cane and even fruity coffees with a very velvety mouthfeel,” says Cerón.

Thanks to Cerón’s efforts to bring his coffee to the special category, he began to receive orders from Paris, New York, Miami and Santiago de Chile, where other people from Nariño promote this gastronomic gem produced in the remote municipality of Colón, Génova.

A luxury cafe in Bogotá

Seven years and a pandemic later, José Raimundo Cerón decided to open his own coffee shop in Bogotá. Against all odds, this man from Nariño decided to bet big and open his own place to offer the best of his land in the Colombian capital.

“I wanted to bring Aromas del Viento to Bogotá to show part of the history of the Nariño coffee grower, because we work honestly to bring the best quality of coffee to the cup. This is our great opportunity to show our passion and love for the product of our land,” says Cerón.

This is how a new specialty coffee shop arrived in the capital, especially on Av. Cra 19 #143a-14, where diners find a place decorated with images evoking the Mopa Mopa, also known as the Barniz de Pasto, which is the ancestral design of the lands of Nariño, along with the flowers and coffee cherries, so characteristic of the region.

Preparations that surprise at Aromas del Viento

Cerón has a team of baristas who have had the opportunity to visit other coffee shops, in order to understand what diners are looking for. In addition to having a supreme cup of coffee, they also know that variety attracts attention, so they have prepared a series of drinks that you should try at least once to see if they surprise your palate.

One of them is mandarin juice with a double espresso, a combination that is refreshing and energizing for the body. On the other hand, there is the chocolate affogato, which consists of the combination of an espresso with a scoop of gelato and chocolate sauce, perfect to order for dessert after lunch.

The Aromas del Viento café also has a gelato section that you can order accompanied by coffee so you can do a tasting and discover the fruity flavors that can be found in said drink. In addition, it also has the classic bakery to accompany the afternoons and, above all, coffee kits to give as gifts for birthdays or on a special occasion.
