The mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, announced that a group of soldiers will arrive to reinforce security in the capital of Valle del Cauca. In total, 14 platoons of professional soldiers will strengthen the force of the city and neighboring municipalities.
“We appreciate that the Government has responded to the call we make from Cali and from the Valley,” Eder Garcés said about the group of professional soldiers that will be in the city starting next July 8.
“It is very important news for our city and for our region because we are going to recover, hand in hand with the Public Force, control and security in the rural area of the south of Valle del Cauca. The main mission of these platoons is to recover the rural area of Jamundí and protect the rural area of Cali,” commented Eder.
In recent months, local authorities have asked for government support to protect the city for the development of COP16, the global event that Cali will host in the second half of this year. In addition to this, in the coming days the city will receive 200 of the 5,000 police officers, who will guard the city during the international event that will take place from October 21 to November 1.
