Chucky will have a new movie from the hand of its creator, Don Mancini, who will connect it to the series

Did someone say Chuckyverse? ‘Diabolical Doll’ is one of the longest-running and most prosperous sagas of horror cinema, reinventing itself again and again without losing sight of its roots and without abandoning the continuity that It began back in 1988 with the first film of the possessed doll. And far from having an end on the horizon, there are already plans to continue expanding it.

In addition to the series ‘Chucky’, which airs on SYFY Spain and is now in its third season, Don Mancini, the screenwriter responsible for creating the Chucky universe in the late 80s, has revealed that he is working on a new film in the saga.

It was during his participation in the Scream Dreams podcast, where Mancini drops the bomb: “In fact, I am in the early stages of working on a new Chucky movie.” The screenwriter and producer of the franchise does not specify whether the idea is to release it in theaters or streaming, but yes confirms that it will be connected to the SYFY series (and therefore the rest of the films), as it could not be otherwise.

In another interview with DJ Suss One (via JoBlo), Mancini explains that the project “is designed to work in tandem with the television series”, adding: “You know, as part of the current attempts to conquer the universe with Chucky.” That is to say, knowing how inclined Mancini is to connect all the installments of the saga by recovering characters from the past, it is very possible that we will once again see familiar faces from the series and the previous feature films.

Reboot failed

The ‘Chucky’ saga has seven films. Five were released in theaters (‘Devil’s Doll’, 1988, ‘Devil’s Doll 2’, 1990, ‘Devil’s Doll 3’, 1991, ‘Bride of Chucky’, 1998, and ‘Seed of Chucky’, 2004), while that the last two were released directly on DVD and Blu-ray (‘The Curse of Chucky’, 2013, and ‘The Cult of Chucky’, 2017).

Besides, The series, simply titled ‘Chucky’, premiered in 2021 and was very well received by critics and fans of the saga.. With her, Mancini took the reins of the property again after the failed attempt to restart it with a remake for theaters in 2019, starring Aubrey Plaza. That film was not very well received, which made it clear that fans preferred the saga to continue developing in its original continuity, increasingly twisted, meta and crazy.

The second part of season 3 of ‘Chucky’ premieres in the United States on April 10 and will soon arrive on SYFY Spain.
