Grave robbers, people who search among the dead to find hidden treasures. They are monuments dedicated to people long missing, whose bodies have been completely consumed or remain skeletal inside the earth. Others have remained whole because doctors used techniques to mummify and preserve the flesh. None of this stops the Tombaroli gang, the thieves who star the Italian hit ‘La Chimera’ and who act based on their own reasons. MeriStation has had access to an exclusive clip, available on these lines.

The Tombaroli gang

“We all have a chimera, something we want to do, have, but never find,” says the official synopsis. However, the Tombaroli gang, a group of grave robbers that operates in archaeological sites, does not have the desire to progress in the world of work, but rather to get rich with as little effort as possible. “For Arthur, the Chimera looks like Benjamina, the woman he lost. In order to find it, Arthur will face the invisible, he will search everywhere, he will penetrate the earth” in search of the door that leads to the Beyond, wherever it is (if it is). All these characters travel their path in search of their own Chimera and their destinies intersect.

In the words of director Alice Rohrwatcher, the film chronicles the ups and downs of this peculiar band. The story takes place in the eighties, a time in which “everyone who became a tombarolo—one who crossed the visible line between the sacred and the looted—did so to change their past, to start from scratch, to be another. The tombaroli were, there is no doubt about it, strong, young and cursed.”

‘The Chimera’ is already in theaters since April 19. Directed and written by Alice Rohrwatcher, it features Emmy winner Josh O’Connor, Isabella Rossellini and Carol Duarte in its cast.
