The Lord of the Rings in its translation to the cinema, despite the insistence of Harvey Weinstein, had three individual films: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. Filmed entirely in New Zealand, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, the actors, actresses and members of the crew spent several years filming and preparing the three films in one fell swoop, which brought the pages of a masterpiece and classic of literature to the big screen with unusual fidelity. Although the editing in theaters was generous, and extended versions were soon available with much longer length and extra sequences, many scenes were left out of the editing room. In the new clip we can see a completely new one.

The new outtake scene, which corresponds to Gandalf’s (Ian McKellen) arrival in the Shire at the beginning of the first film, features the wizard and the hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), in an elvish language lesson. In this brief but revealing clip, Gandalf is teaching Frodo the secrets of the Sindarinthe favorite language of the elves in Middle-earth, a good indication of the extent to which an attempt was made to transfer this rich and absorbing fantasy universe to the big screen.

The transcendence of this moment lies in the context of the importance of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, one of the highest-grossing sagas in history, with followers all over the world, and opens the door to, in the future, Let’s see more lost and hidden cuts. Like the One Ring hidden and forgotten in the depths of the Misty Mountains, you never know when that which was lost in the counting of years might reappear.
