‘kingdom of the planet of the apes‘, the next installment of the legendary science fiction saga that began in 1968 as an adaptation of Pierre Boulle’s story, hits theaters this May 10 and it seems that there are plans to develop a new trilogy if the response at the box office is positive. In 2011, ten years after Tim Burton’s version with Mark Wahlberg as the human protagonist, Rupert Wyatt rebooted this science fiction universe with a trilogy of prequels that revealed how the apes, led by Caesar, made their way onto Earth by unleashing a pandemic and taking the reins of society. Seven years after the closure of that reboot, Wes Ball lands in theaters with a late sequel that goes beyond those films headed by Caesar and his revolutionand it seems that things are promising.

We already knew that Wes Ball and 20th Century Studios, with the support of Disney, intended to carry out a new trilogy of ‘Planet of the Apes‘, but now the director has confessed in an interview for ComicBook how this new series of feature films will be developed, and has even revealed what it was originally going to be called ‘kingdom of the planet of the apes‘: “Take as much time as necessary“, the director started, stating that they are not going to rush to film the new films. “Hopefully, because this franchise is important to the studio, we’ll do it right like we did with this one.“We took our time and we did it well,” he continued, practically confirming that the following installments will have to wait to be released in theaters.

“It takes time and I don’t want to start prepping when the script isn’t finished. I’ve had to do it in the past and nothing good comes of it. That’s one of the most important things movies could do right now: stop doing it. We would save a lot of money“He added forcefully. Ball wants the new ape movies to be written and filmed calmly and patiently, avoiding unnecessary rushing so that the results are the best possible. And it is logical, however, because this type of Projects require an incredible level of detail when it comes to special effects.
“We have an idea of where we want to go and there is plenty of room for great drama.. “There are literally doors opening at the end of this movie that hopefully reveal a much bigger world that we get to explore, full of drama, full of conflict, all that kind of stuff.” The director also confesses that ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ was going to be called ‘Empire of the Planet of the Apes’, but the managers did not give the green light to that name. “That was my original title, we couldn’t do it, we just couldn’t.” The next film in the ape universe arrives this Friday and aims to have a very good opening at the box office.
