Netflix receives a movie about a shark in the Seine and it’s as crazy as it sounds

In the midst of controversy over whether the waters of the river Sign are suitable for swimming tests in the imminent Olympic GamesNetflix has released a film that imagines an even more extreme scenario: a shark giant prowling the waters of the Paris river.

In the depths of the Seineeither Sous la Seinearrived without making much noise on the platform last Wednesday, but has the potential to become a new cult film for shark movie fans (it is already in the Top 1 of Netflix movies).

Starring Bernice Bejo (The Artist) and directed by Xavier Gens (Gangs of London, Cold Skin, Hitman), Sous la Seine comes dragging mixed reviews towards negative among the few critics who have bothered to pay attention to it. But if you’re a fan of shark movies, is it worth it as entertainment on a hot weekend?

In the depths of the Seine, Macron’s nightmare

Although the premise may seem absurd, the film has a totally serious tone and high production values. The shots in which the shark appears, a six or seven meter makoare generally quite convincing… except in certain shots where sings the CGI.

However, it’s nothing that shark movie regulars haven’t suffered before. In fact, compared to most “serious” shark movies coming out of the United States, this one doesn’t pull any punches.

There are not so many scenes in which the shark, but when he is hungry, there are liters of bloodA lot of amputations and several surprises that we do not want to reveal. We will only say that one sequence in the catacombs halfway through the film it will turn stomachs and go down in the history of this subgenre…

Sous la Seine

The tape has an obvious ecological messagestarting because the protagonist is a marine biologist whose goal is monitor and protect sharks and the marine fauna victim of the tons of garbage that humanity releases into the sea.

It also clearly refers to the case mentioned before: the controversy over whether Olympic events should be held in the waters of the Seine due to the high pollution there is (and it is not new: bathing has been prohibited since 1923).

There is a direct mention of the Olympic Games, although in this case it is the Triathlon that is going to be held in the river… which is like an all-you-can-eat buffet for the shark. The mayor of Paris, like that of Amity Islandwill not cancel the event for anything in the world…

You can imagine what happens next… but sure, surethat you can’t guess how it ends the movie: a crazy ending, that happens a little out of nowhere, that will anger some…and others will justify having seen this new movie Netflix with the potential to go viral.

In the depths of the Seine it is not good, but yes very entertaininghas memorable scenes, is full of deaths (above the average shark movies American), a very crazy script twist and an ending that, really, to see is to believe.
