Growing up is not always easy, and going through the beginning of adolescence can be conflicting. This is what happens to Riley, the protagonist who 9 years ago was a girl in Intensely and now, in Inside Out 2has turned 13.

Intenselywe said, was a bomb of imagination, a major surprise in the world of animation, due to Pete Docter (Monsters Inc., Up). First and foremost, for showing Riley’s emotions operating a console to help her. Joy, Sadness, Fury, Fear and Disgust combined to achieve the best result.

But with the arrival of puberty, we must make room for new emotions. How is Anxiety not going to appear if Riley finds out that her two best friends are changing schools? How can she please the players of the ice hockey team to whom they were invited to share a camp?

In his brain, a siren sounds, which means it’s time for the workers (sort of like Minions, but blue) to burst in and knock down the walls… and install a new console, so the new feelings can participate.

The ones we already knew now became “repressed emotions”, which will go to the back of your mind.

And Anxiety doesn’t come alone. Envy appears, as well as Shame and Ennui (something like reluctance or boredom), each with a characteristic color, the same as the five “originals”.

Just like in the first Inside Out, here what happens in Riley’s life is combined with what emotions build within her being. Obviously the sequel lacks the surprise and the originality of the first, but it has its moments of tenderness, which will surely thrill the little ones or those with big hearts.

Can Joy and Anxiety go hand in hand in Riley’s brain – or that of any human -?

Riley’s parents don’t have as much involvement in the story – which means, in her life… – now that the teenager is torn between her old friends and creating new ones. And on the console, the control will change hands. Joy wants one thing (to maintain Riley’s essence), but Ansiedad can’t handle herself and she anticipates everything that can happen, and hurt the protagonist.

Clearly girls and teenagers will be able to relate more, with Riley trying to please the cool girls at hockey camp. The question is whether she can do that and still be the same. And Riley’s expanded internal universe offers new places to discover. There may be less imaginative audacity, but the pace is maintained throughout the screening.

The new emotions: Shame, Anxiety, Envy and Ennui (Boredom).

Attention, in some complexes the original copy is released, with Spanish subtitles, and so you can hear the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edibiri and Adèle Exarchopoulos, among others.
