The animated film is based on the character created by Eiji Tsuburaya in the 1960s.

When increasing monster attacks threaten Tokyo, Ken Sato, a baseball star, reluctantly returns to his hometown to become Ultraman. However, he will soon find himself in trouble once fate forces him to adopt a huge, fire-breathing baby kaiju. Now, Sato must put his ego aside to balance work with fatherhood and protect the little boy from the dark forces that seek to take advantage of him.

Ultraman: The Rise is an original Japanese-American co-production from Netflix, Tsuburaya Productions and Industrial Light & Magic. It has a script by Shannon Tindle and Marc Haimes, direction by Shannon Tindle (making his debut) and co-direction by John Aoshima. The film has 81% approval from professional critics on the popular site Rotten Tomatoeswhile it has a 97% rating given by fans.

This new film not only provides a guaranteed fun time for the whole family, but also has a story full of heart and morals, which teaches us that when we hit rock bottom in our lives, the only alternative we have is to go up. What were the reasons why Shannon and John wanted to explore this particular side of such an iconic character, such as Ultraman? In the interview that both filmmakers gave me for SensaCine Latam, this is what they told me:

“I like to make things that I can connect emotionally with. If it’s something where there’s a lot of noise, action and explosions, my brain shuts down quickly. With this movie I wanted to “give the audience some popcorn, with some vegetables hidden inside. “A lot of people don’t know who Ultraman is, so it was important to be able to tell a story that everyone could love equally and that felt authentic“Shannon Tindle shared, showing his enthusiasm for his directorial debut.

“I always sought to support the idea and vision that Shannon had from the beginning. Knowing that this was an Ultraman movie, the question was figuring out how we could tell the journey of this iconic character and what it would mean for him to rise to the chaotic circumstances presented to him to become a hero. In my opinion, all of that is what defines Ultraman as a character and what gives essence to his spirit,” were the words of co-director John Aoshima, who is also known for his work on Gravity Falls.

Ultraman: The Rise arrived in the Netflix catalog last Friday, June 14oday can now be enjoyed worldwide. You already saw her? What do you think about it? Don’t hesitate to share your comments!
