Hayden Christensen felt quite uncomfortable the first time he put on the suit
Over the years, public opinion about Hayden Christensen and his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker has improved significantly. The younger version of the fearsome Sith fell in love with many viewers, showing that the actor had the skills to embody the future Darth Vader, although he came close to not wearing his iconic suit.
In an interview with GQ, Christensen revealed that he was not initially scheduled to don the Darth Vader suit in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. However, after much thought, he asked permission from George Lucas to wear the suit, which the director graciously agreed to.
“I found out that they weren’t planning on putting me in the Darth Vader suit, and that discouraged me a little bit. So I talked to George Lucas and asked him, and he was kind enough to oblige me. I think there’s something nice about knowing that he’s the actor. the one wearing the suit, but it was really just for my benefit. It was a difficult suit to move, and I said to George, ‘Look, I don’t know if I can move as well as I thought.’ And he was like, ‘Okay.’ “It’s supposed to be your first time in the suit, so if it’s a little stiff and uncomfortable, it was like, ‘That’s a good thing, actually.'”
Once he accepted this deal and put on the suit, Christensen acknowledged that he didn’t feel as comfortable as he thought, which worried him about customer satisfaction. George Lucas with the result. However, the filmmaker reassured him that, since it was Vader’s first time wearing the suit, it was normal that he did not move fluidly.
