The spider superhero could return to the big screen, but this time not under the identity of Peter Parker.
After the resounding success of the animated Spider-Verse films, released in 2018 and 2023, Hollywood would be considering transferring the adventures of Miles Morales to live-action format. Insider Jeff Sneider, in his podcast The Hot Mic, revealed that a feature film with this young Spider-Man as the protagonist is in preparation.
Sony in search of a new protagonist
Sony Pictures, which owns the film rights to Spider-Man, is currently looking for the perfect actor to play Miles Morales in this new version. Although rumors have circulated about this project for years, Recent statements from producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad in May 2023 suggest production is gaining momentumespecially with the casting phase underway.
A hero with a legacy
Miles Morales first appeared in comics in August 2011, in Ultimate Comics: Fallout #4. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, This character has captured the imagination of fans as the main hero of the Ultimate Comics series: Spider-Man. Like Peter Parker, Miles gains his powers after being bitten by a biologically modified spider.
The animated version of Miles, presented in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2019. Its sequel, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’released four years later, raised $690 million worldwidefurther consolidating the popularity of the character.
A promising future
The new live-action film not only promises to expand the Spider-Man universe but also attract a new generation of viewers. With the animated trilogy nearing its conclusion with ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’, Fans are eagerly awaiting more details about the project around Miles Morales.
