The Complaints and Complaints Commission of the National Electoral Institute (INE) refused this Thursday to prohibit downloading the broadcast of La Hora Nacional after the request of the legislators of the National Action Party (PAN) considering that it is a restriction on freedom of expression.

The PAN representatives filed a complaint with the electoral body to suspend the broadcast of La Hora Nacional because, in their words, “violates the prohibition of impartiality”.

In the 26th Private Urgent Extraordinary Session of the Complaints and Complaints Commission, the Commission refused to impose precautionary measures against the General Directorate of Radio, Television and Cinematography and the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), as well as against the drivers Javier Ramírez Gómez and Leonora Milan, because there is a firm statement by the same commission on February 28.

“This would constitute a disproportionate restriction on the maximum freedom of expression that, under the appearance of good law, is not considered intrinsically illegal, as long as the constitutional principles that are alleged to have been transgressed are respected and the constitutional and legal limits provided for in government propaganda are respected. considering that the campaign stage in the current electoral process is underway.”

Therefore, the members of the commission, Claudia Zavala, Rita Bell López and Arturo Castillo, voted unanimously against the issuance of said precautionary measure.

Why did the PAN ask the INE to suspend La Hora Nacional?

The request made by legislators Federico Döring and Luis Alberto Mendoza was presented under the argument that is used to promote the presidential candidacy of Claudia Sheinbaum.

“Together with @FDoringCasar we ask that La Hora Nacional be suspended because it has been used to make electoral political propaganda in favor of @Claudiashein. It is the responsibility of @INEMexico to determine the sanctions that the situation warrants against @SEGOB_mx and those who are responsible,” Mendoza reported in his account. x.

The complaint filed last Saturday, March 23, indicates the alleged “violation of the principles of impartiality, neutrality and equity of the electoral contest, as well as the transfer or acquisition of radio time for political-electoral purposes.”

In the document, shared by Mendoza Acevedo, the radio concessionaires that broadcast the ‘La Hora Nacional’ programs, corresponding to the broadcasts of the days December 3 and 10, 2023, as well as the January 14 of the current year.

Likewise, he speaks out against the National Chamber of the Radio and Television Industry (CIRT), the General Directorate of Radio, Television and Cinematography of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob) and the presidential candidate of Morena, PVEM and PT, Claudia Sheinbaum.
