It is always nice to know that a teacher continues to support their students no matter how many years and decades pass. Some time ago, Kirk Hammett (Metallica) remembered the teachings of Joe Satriani that marked his way of playingbut without a doubt there will be no greater honor for the guitarist of the men in black than the fact of seeing Satriani and Vai cover “Enter Sandman” together. That the legacy of those from San Francisco is not at all indifferent to the first is found in a single Hammett what do you think “especially exciting to play”.
In an interview from Ultimate Classic Rock with both virtuosos, they explained how the idea of daring with a hymn of the caliber of “Enter Sandman” of Metallica: “I would give ideas to my keyboard player, Ray Thistlethwaite, who has an incredible voice. What started as a crazy proposal ended up being a challenge: “We texted each other with the craziest ideas for songs. At one point, I suggested “Enter Sandman.” I didn’t think he wanted to do it, but right away he told me: “Let’s do it. “I want to sing it.” He surprised me a lot. Because he doesn’t sing like James Hetfield. But hey, he does it great every night. It’s very fun to play”.
After what Vai pointed out that it was “a great riff to play”, Satriani confessed the following: “Did you know? It’s especially exciting to play Kirk’s solo.”. There could be no greater pride for a teacher than interpreting notes for which his student has been recognized worldwide.
Right now, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai They are about to finish their joint tour. The tour, which began in March, will end on May 8. After, steve will embark on the long-awaited project beatin which he will play material from King Crimson from the 80s with Tony Levin, Adrian Belew and Danny Carey.
The men in black, for their part, will return to our country with the presentation of the ’72 Seasons’ album in Madrid.
