Javier Martínez died: goodbye to a pioneer of national rock

The drummer and founder of Manal died at the age of 78.

Another sad news hits the world of rock and blues. Javier Martínez He died at the age of 78 after being admitted to intensive care at the High Complexity Medical Institute (IMAC), following a complication after a domestic fall. It was his sister who confirmed it through a message on the musician’s social networks.

“I am Dora Alicia Martínez Suárez, Javier’s sister. I regret to inform you that my brother passed away today. On Sunday, May 5, between 4 and 7 p.m., at Casa Guerrieri at 900 Forest Avenue, we will accompany you on your journey to Eternity forever and ever,” he wrote and closed by quoting his own brother: “When one has no more nothing to say, the journey of silence begins.”

At the end of the ’60s Javier Martínez formed Manal next to Alejandro Medina and Claudio Gabisa band considered one of the pioneers of rock in Argentina along with The cats and Almond. The trio had a very short duration, but was effective in marking the foundations of national rock. Later, Javier integrated The Heavy of Rock and Rolltoured the world and developed his solo career releasing several albums: southern sun (1983), Currents (1993), swing (1998), Enough of the idiots (2003), Think Positive (2015) and Concert in the studio (2020). His last record production was Realize (2021).

Without breaking contact with his old colleagues Manal, they went, came and met more than once: in 2014 they gave a private concert at the Red House pub, from which a CD and DVD were released. And two years later, in 2017, they played together for the last time.

Rock mourns the loss of this legendary artist who opened paths and left an inescapable mark. For this reason, many colleagues posted farewell messages on social media. Such is the case of Alejandro Medina, Pedro Aznar, Carca, Andrea Alvarez and The Mississippi.
