The well-known Encyclopaedia Metallum will not allow publishing information about music that has been made with Artificial Intelligence

The Metal scene has not been immune to the phenomenon of AI and projects whose music has been generated in this way have already been heard. Metal Archives – Encyclopaedia Metallumthe popular database that brings together the largest amount of information on bands of all Metal genres, has decided remove and ban publishing any type of music with AI on your website.
“We will not accept groups with albums generated by AI”
In a statement, Derigin, administrator of Metal Archives, explains the decision:
“We want to make clear what our position is regarding these bands and how we plan to move forward in their evaluation.
It went without saying, at least until now, that when we envisioned growing the largest and most comprehensive Metal music database, part of that vision was preservation of art and human expression through music. Until now, that was a fact. The music described on the site is, in some ways, performed, programmed and composed by a human being. That is still an important criterion for us, and we believe that AI-generated music does not meet that requirement.
Taking into account the above, We will not accept groups with AI generated albumsand we will take a closer look at the suspicious shipments of having music generated by AI.
For users submitting groups, if you have a band that is suspected of having AI-generated music, we may ask you to provide evidence to the contrarywhether it be behind-the-scenes material, statements from the group or their record label, proof that the group has played live, promotional material that demonstrates that the group is authentic, etc. The more evidence we have to prove that this group is real and that their music is composed by a human being, the better. Our goal is not to make it difficult for you or anyone else, but we want to be true to our vision for the site.
This policy is not perfect and is a work in progress that may evolve over time. We know that there will be some groups with AI-generated music that will be added by mistake to the site, and we also know that mistakes can be made and that groups without AI-generated material can be flagged for having AI-generated music. With your help, we hope to avoid this as much as possible.”
FROSTBITE ORCKINGS, the “group” that illustrates this news, was presented as the first Metal band in the world with a complete album created by AI. The band’s record is one of those that have been deleted from Metal Archives.
For the moment, Metal Archives’ measure is limited to music. The website has not clarified whether the measure will at some point affect the art of the covers, with recent notable cases such as those of DEICIDE and their “Banished By Sin” and PESTILENCE with “Levels Of Perception”.
