The guitarist left the Brazilian group in 1996
The leader of SOULFLY and founding member of GRAVE, Max Cavalerahas been asked in an interview if the current lineup of the Brazilian band has contacted him to join the group in what will be the last concert of his farewell tour.
Speaking to Rock Hard Greece:
“They haven’t contacted me. In fact, I think I saw something by Andreas Kisser [guitarrista de SEPULTURA]said ‘Why are we going to ask them to participate? [en referencia a Max y a su hermano Iggor Cavalera, exbatería de SEPULTURA]? They’re going to spoil the party,’ which is very typical of Andreas.
I don’t know. I think I’m going to let things happen as they have to happen. I’m not going to force anything, and If there comes a time when we feel we need to have a meeting… Okay, well, As long as we do it the right way. As with the SEPULTURA re-recordings. “I think we did them the right way: honest, appropriate, from the heart.”
“I don’t understand the idea of the end of SEPULTURA”
Cavalera, who recently confessed to not having listened to SEPULTURA albums since their release, continues:
“So right now I’m not thinking about a reunion. I know they announced the end of the band. I don’t understand this idea. I don’t know if they were forced to do it., or if it’s a mutual decision to just stop playing because they don’t want to do it anymore. Don’t know. I myself can’t live without music. I need to play live. It’s like the air I breathe.
“I love what I’m doing right now with Igor, with CAVALERA, and we’re going to continue.”
Max left SEPULTURA in 1996, after the other members dropped him. Glory, the wife and manager of the singer and guitarist. Max’s brother, the drummer Iggor Cavalera, remained in the band for another ten years. She later left SEPULTURA and joined him in the band CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. In 2023 the brothers re-recorded two classic SEPULTURA albums. In 2024, they undertake the re-recording of “Schizophrenia”.
SEPULTURA announced its withdrawal in December 2023.
