Taylor’s struggle with mental health

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has spoken openly in recent months about his struggle with manic depression, saying that people have a hard time understanding the “numb” feeling that comes with it.

In a recently published interview with The Void With Christina, the vocalist has shared more information about what it’s like to live with manic depression and the stigma surrounding talking about it.

“It’s interesting. “I’ve always been very outspoken about everything so I never realized it was a stigma, to be honest,” she said. “It was a line you didn’t really cross or admit, especially someone in my profession or whatever… people used it as a buzzword. They never talked about it eloquently or very openly.

“So when I started opening up about it, the response was pretty extraordinary: People were saying, ‘You gave me the courage to open up about it on my own and really talk to the people I care about about what was affecting me,’” he added.

“That, in a strange way, helped me with communication with my loved ones, because I felt like I was being very open about it in the press, but then I couldn’t expand on it to the people it was really affecting.”

She continued by recalling the hardest part of dealing with mental health issues: “I think the biggest thing that people don’t understand is the numbness that comes with it, especially when the physical side of it hits you and it becomes that struggle, that almost impossible struggle to deal with. simply being alive or human. It’s something you just can’t describe to people unless they’ve been there.

“It’s really hard to try to get them to see why it’s so hard to be alive. It’s almost like replacing your body with the body of a mannequin. I call it trying to run underwater. So I think that’s the biggest thing that’s really the hardest thing, is getting people to understand and empathize.”

The interview was recorded in December but was posted online yesterday (March 6). Just weeks after it took place, Taylor canceled her previously scheduled solo tour in North America, citing mental health issues.

“Over the past few months, my mental and physical health has been deteriorating, and I reached a point that was unhealthy for my family and me,” she wrote in a statement.
