Juan Antonio Bayona will be part of the jury for the next Cannes Film Festival, which is celebrated from May 14 to 25, and which will be chaired by Greta Gerwig.
The festival announced this Monday in a statement the composition of the Jury that will decide the attribution of the Palme d’Or to one of the 22 films in competition, four and a half months after having reported the election of the director of Barbie as president.
The Turkish director and photographer will also be part of the jury for the 77th edition of the festival. Ebru Ceylon, American actress Lily Glandstone french actress Eva Green the lebanese director Nadine Labaki the italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino, the japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda and the French actor and producer Omar Sy.
Regarding Bayona, the organizers highlighted that it has imposed itself as “one of the most acclaimed Spanish filmmakers” by the public and critics “from all over the world”.
They remembered that their first film, The orphanage, was presented at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival in 2007, where “it was applauded and with The impossible In 2012 he won five Goya awards, including best director, in addition to the nomination for Naomi Watts for the Oscars and the Golden Globes in the best actress category.
Just like his last movie, The Snow Society, which was the big winner at the Goya with twelve statuettes, “has been celebrated for its profound humanism and its technical prowess.”
Among the other members of the jury there are well-known figures of the seventh art such as Omar Sy, who achieved great projection from the César he won in his country for best actor in 2011 for Untouchable, of Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache.
Also Lily Glandstone, who with her role in The assassins of the moon, by Martin Scorsese, in addition to being nominated for an Oscar, received the Golden Globe in 2023, the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2024 and the title of best actress from the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Board of Review.
The winners of the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival will be made public on May 25 during the closing day.
