With the presence of some 80 participants from 25 countries, including academics, union leaders, pacifists and friends of Cuba, the event program includes in its initial day a floral offering to the Mother of Los Maceo, a bicycle ride for peace and the inauguration of a poster exhibition.

After the welcome by the territorial authorities, the delegates will be offered updated information on the province and a conference by José Sánchez Guerra, historian of the City of Guantánamo.

Fernando González, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and Iraklis Tsavdaridis, executive secretary of the World Peace Council (WPC), will also participate in the opening of the Seminar.

A dozen presentations will be given on the effects of the foreign military presence in Cuba, where a United States base has been located in Guantánamo Bay, against the will of its people, for more than 120 years, as well as also the consequences of the unwanted existence of these enclaves in Latin America and the world.

The participants will share Sunday, the final day of the event, with residents of the municipality of Caimanera, where the minutes of the Final Declaration will be read, in a popular event.

The Seminar is sponsored by the ICAP and the CMP, it has been held biannually since the end of the first decade of this century in Guantánamo, to demand the elimination of the more than 800 foreign bases and facilities in our region and throughout the world, the cessation of the arms race and weapons of mass extermination promoted by US imperialism and its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

These demands will be joined by the end of the massacre committed by the Israeli government against the Palestinian people with the complicity of the United States and other Western countries, the cessation of the criminal US economic and financial blockade of Cuba, and the withdrawal of the nation. Caribbean from the spurious list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

The forum will also address the challenges and threats facing world peace, with the advance of the so-called “cyberwar”, aimed at imposing an international cultural and political change in favor of the hegemonic interests of the United States and its acolytes, as a new type unconventional warfare.
