From his party, some classified the act as opportunistic or as a strategy to position his name for the 2026 presidential elections. In fact, a sector of the Green Party will hold a press conference on April 7 in Congress to talk about the resignation of López and Antanas Mockus after the alleged corruption scandals known in the UNGRD that would link two militants: the president of Congress, Iván Name, and Sandra Ortizformer advisor for the Regions.

“I would believe Claudia López’s indignation if the congressmen of her tendency, starting with her wife, resigned with her. Her resignation is an opportunistic action to slip the bullet and get dirty for those of us who accompany Gustavo Petro’s government out of ideological conviction,” said the senator. Inti Asprillaone of the voices that has called for the split of the party.

This same call is made by the representative Cathy Juvinao: “I am very afraid that if the directives are not receptive to accepting the path of the split, they will leave members like me no other path than the one taken by Antanas Mockus and now also by our former mayor, Claudia López.”

The former mayor of Bogotá Enrique Penalosawho resigned from the Green Party in 2015, was another of the voices to speak out against the resignation of López, whom he called a “champion of opportunism.”

I did leave the Green Party when Petrism took over. In practice we had resurrected it from the legal shell that it was, with Lucho and Antanas Mockus, when we made the Green Wave. On the contrary, Claudia López stayed in that party precisely happy that the Petrista left had taken it over. And she supported Petro and publicly expressed her happiness at Petro’s victory. “She is a champion of opportunism,” she indicated.

From the government of President Gustavo Petro, the director of the UNGRD, Carlos Carrillo, spoke about the resignation. Carrillo, precisely, was a councilor of Bogotá during López’s mandate and was known for opposing him.

“Traditional politics has controlled the UNGRD since its creation, that traditional politics is what has historically looted the country. Claudia López’s show is too opportunistic. With whom did he govern for four years in Bogotá? Even the Democratic Center drank from the bureaucratic participation in its mayor’s office!” said the director of the unit.

The representative of the Historical Pact María Fernanda Carrascal For her part, she said that the former mayor would seek to run for the Presidency in 2026 through signatures: “She is going to do the same as Galán with Cambio Radical. Denying his party, after contributing to the debacle, and then running for the Presidency through signatures or in some coalition using all the scaffolding of corruption that he supposedly abandoned. Pure and simple opportunism”.
