With the purpose of honoring groups and soloists that have contributed to the development of Cuban good humor during these three decades of existence of the Humor Promotion Center, as well as others who preceded its founding, it will be held from June 30 to July 7 the 28th edition of the Aquelarre Humor Festival 2024.

As reported at a press conference, although this time it will not be competitive, audiences will be able to enjoy varied shows by comedians from the Center’s catalog, as well as the new generation of comedians.

This edition will also feature the participation of the Mexican comedian and actor Carlos Ballarta, who will perform on the 29th, prior to the inauguration, and on the 30th in the Covarrubias room. His interaction with Cuban comedians will allow us to “confront our ways of making humor.” See how it works in other parts of Latin America, analyze how we are close or not. It is always good to establish comparisons to exchange ideas,” said Eider Pérez, director of the Center.

In addition to the Covarrubias, the main venue, other spaces where the event will take place are the Amphitheater of the Historic Center of Old Havana, the Adolfo Llauradó room, the Yara cinema, La Pérgola in the Cuba Pavilion, and the headquarters of the Nave Creative Community Island Office, in the San José Warehouses, Old Havana.

Likewise, the Villena room at Uneac will host the theoretical event You already think about humor. In this space, prominent Cuban intellectuals and comedians will discuss how the development of humor has been in these 30 years thanks to the existence of the Center, the contributions it has made from an academic and research point of view. The approach that racial issues have received in this genre will also be analyzed, as well as the successes and failures that humor has had in audiovisuals in recent times.

As part of the event, beloved works such as Life is Old, with texts by Miguel Moreno (The Key) and directed by Osvaldo Doimeadiós, will be performed in the Covarrubias room and also at the Nave Oficio de Isla headquarters.

Among the tributes, a special tribute will be paid to the teachers of several generations of actors Corina Mestre and Carmen Fragoso, who recently died.
