To encourage scientific-technical exchange, the application of innovation based on development, and strengthen strategic industrial and productive alliances, the IV International Convention and Exhibition of the Cuban Industry Cubaindustria was inaugurated this Monday at the Convention Palace of this capital 2024.
Before the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, vice prime minister of the Republic, Eloy Álvarez Martínez, head of Industries, highlighted in his opening speech that, for five days, more than a thousand will converge at that headquarters and at the Pabexpo fairgrounds. 600 participants, of them 202 foreigners from 25 countries.
Cuba receives them in a complex context, marked by the effects caused by the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, the owner noted.
He said that the measures outlined by the country’s highest leadership to correct distortions and re-boost the economy represent a guide for the national industry in terms of transforming the results in the management of the sector.
Álvarez Martínez commented that Cubaindustria 2024 is an event of high importance for that branch, as it aims to achieve greater complementarity, integration and international insertion in pursuit of industrial development in the largest of the Antilles.
The event will include the activities of light industry, chemistry, metalworking, steel, recycling, electronics, automation and packaging, the minister detailed.
The Scientific Convention that begins this Monday highlighted the celebration of a dozen conferences with the participation of more than 1,100 delegates and the presentation of around 276 papers and 73 keynote conferences.
It will be the precise setting for the exchange between technologists, teachers, students and experts from 23 research centers, of which 10 national universities, he pointed out.
The application of science, technology and innovation contributes to solving the problems of the economy and industry in particular, emphasized Álvarez Martínez.
Regarding the Fair, which will open this June 18, he noted that more than 500 exhibitors will participate, including 146 foreigners from 11 countries.
At Pabexpo the potential of the Cuban industry will be made visible with products and services that are sustainable from a financial point of view, to satisfy the needs of the economy and exports, said the owner.
There will be representation of business groups from the light, metalworking, steel, chemical, recycling industries and the Mariel Special Development Zone.
The Minister of Industries highlighted the participation of representatives of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the World Packaging Organization, which have strong ties with the archipelago.
Within Cubaindustria there will also be a representation of the Chinese business community.
This event makes us move from conception to action to have an agenda with tasks and common points for industrial development, said José Félix Rivas Alvarado, sectoral vice president of Economy and Minister of Popular Power of Industries and National Production of Venezuela.
He called for import substitution to create values and chains for industrialization and economic independence.
The opening of Cubaindustria 2024 was attended by René Mesa Villafaña, Minister of Construction, and Osmakov Vasili Serguevish, First Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Russian Federation.
