Alejandra Monteoliva, the former Minister of Security of José Manuel de la Sota during the crisis of the “Police strike” in 2013, was appointed by Patricia Bullrich as Secretary of National Security.

Graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of the Catholic University of Córdoba, Master in Development Management from the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia) and professor and researcher in Government, Management and Public Policies at different universities in Colombia and Argentina. Monteoliva is a technique without political militancy in Peronism.

In 2013 she became the replacement for the resigning Alejo Paredes, in one of the most sensitive seats in the provincial cabinet.

La Voz wrote when she took office: “Alejandra Monteoliva, the new Minister of Security, was until yesterday the director of the Crime and Violence Observatory, of the Strategic Planning directorate of the Ministry of Security of Córdoba. Although in her government portfolio they called her “the Colombian”, she is from Córdoba. She received a degree in Political Science from the Catholic University of Córdoba, and then earned a master’s degree in public policy. She is also a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). She worked for several years in Colombia in the security area, which today constitutes her main letter of introduction. “She was considered one of the trusted officials of the former minister of the area, Alejo Paredes.”

With the appointment of Monteoliva, De la Sota put a “civilian” in charge of provincial security, also choosing a young professional with an academic profile.

Two months later, the provincial police quartered themselves and unleashed a night of fury and looting in the streets of the Capital. The situation worsened because the then president Cristina Fernández did not authorize the Jesús María Gendarmerie to go out on patrol.
