Tomas Köllner, Nicolás Pardo and Mikaela Engel, students of the Master’s in Marketing at the Business School of the Adolfo Ibáñez University, were among the TOP 10 of the international L’Oréal BrandStorm competition that took place in London. This is a classic company innovation competition where 50,000 teams and 130,000 people around the world participated.
In teams of 3 people, the challenge is to reinvent the future of beauty through technology, led by L’Oréal’s professional products division.
Nicolas, Mikaela and Tomás devised an application that seeks to be the right hand of stylists that promotes knowledge of hair health through AI and Machine Learning, in addition to promoting relationships between the stylist and the client.
After winning the national final in the country, they traveled to represent Chile in the international final in London on June 20.
“We were 44 global groups that went to London, the winners from each country, there was a very good vibe among everyone, a super close relationship and we made friends with people from all over the world, that was the most entertaining and new part of the experience ” the students say.
“But it was also super challenging, first we had to perform twice in front of 2 different juries from different parts of the world. This was done in small boxes where we had 7 minutes to present and answer questions, all in English. Those juries chose the 10.
We still can’t even believe it, because being from Latin America and being among the top 10 is incredible. The other teams that passed are world powers such as the United States, Israel, China, the United Kingdom and France.
In the grand finale we had to present to the global board of directors of L’Oréal, a very different and challenging experience. It was a mega learning opportunity to present a pitch of only 3 minutes to such an important jury and in front of 200 people.”
