Duel between Sofía Gómez Villafañe and Rosa Klöser
The victory determined in the final part
The women’s race offered an exciting duel between Gómez Villafañe and Rosa Klöser, in force champion of the Unbound 200. Both shared much of the head in the head, until the Specialized broker managed to open a small difference in the final sections, crossing the goal with a time of 7:13:01, 44 seconds ahead of Klöser. The third place went to Annika Langvad, also from Specialized, who spent a good part of the day trying to cut out no distances, ending six minutes from the winner. The defender of the title, Carolin Schiff, concluded in sixth position.
From the first measures, a seven -runner getaway took the initiative in the women’s race. It was in that selection where Gómez Villafañe and Klöser made the decisive leap, while Langvad tried to close the hole from behind without achieving it. Argentina explained after the race that arrived in Girona with the intention of knowing the European level of Grave and not with competitive expectations, especially after a spring loaded with tests such as the Cape Epic, the Sea Otter and the Belgian Waffle Ride, in addition to a disease that interrupted its preparation. He also explained in Meta that, with his teammate Langvad trying to reach them, he played the letter of collaborating less with Klöser, something that could be fundamental to reach the final stretch with more energy.
“It didn’t arrive with results ambitions, I just wanted to see how it ran here and understand the European style”he confessed. «I was able to control the first ups and downs, risking a lot, but my material was impeccable. In the plains the group was reduced and then pink and I escaped. She was very strong and it was very generous to tell me about turns and obstacles. At one point it fell and waited for her; We even share a drum »he said, underlining the companionship between them.

Georg Egger

Schmidt finished a solo getaway of more than 20 km
In the male category, Würtz Schmidt prevailed after launching an attack 20 kilometers from the finish line, achieving a definitive advantage to win the victory with a time of 6:12:21. At 1:24, Matthew Beers (Specialized) arrived, which he managed to overcome after having been more than two minutes from the leader in some sections. The third drawer of the podium was for Filippo Conca (Swatt Club), which was initially part of the head duo next to Würtz Schmidt, but lost the sprint for the second place in front of the South African.
The test had a lot of prominence of MTB runners. Georg Egger and, above all, Wout Alleman, were two of the key cyclists in the development of the test. The Buff Megamo was fighting for the victory with a risky attack far from the finish line, but was surpassed in the final stretch of the test, although he was able to maintain a position in the top-5 of the day.
