Only a member of the Medical Brigade survived the accident. The victims were recognized for their community work.
A tragedy hit the corregimiento of the Punta de los Remedios, in the department of La Guajira. Five people who dedicated their lives to bringing Health and hope to the most remote areas of the country lost their lives in a tragic traffic accident that occurred in the sidewalk La Montañita, rural area of the municipality of Dibulla.
Ivanna Moscote, Isaura Moscote, Gilda Arredondo and Adalmeire Quintero They were more than health professionals: they were women deeply committed to their community, known for their vocation of service and their tireless work for the well -being of the most vulnerable.

Next to them died Hugo Nelson Gil Villar, driver of the vehicle and native of Dibulla, who was also an essential part of the extramural brigades that travel difficult paths to bring medical attention where it is most needed.

The group was heading to a day of rural medical care led by the Ministry of Health and that Santa Teresa Hospital of Jesús de Ávila, when its truck was dragged by a growing stream because of heavy rains. The tributary surprised the occupants of the vehicle in the middle of the road, the driver lost control and fell from the bridge to a gutter, was overturned inside the flow. The victims failed to leave on time and died by immersion.
Only one person survived the tragedy: Karen Ruiz, who was rescued and transferred to a health center where he receives medical care.

The loss of these five lives has left a deep emptiness in the communities they attended and among their colleagues. Local authorities lamented the facts and exalted the human and professional value of the victims. “They were silent heroes, who risked everything for the well -being of others ”said Yonni Caicedo, Secretary of Government of Dibulla.
Investigations on the accident continue on the part of the Prosecutor’s Office and traffic agencies, while family, friends and entire communities prepare to say goodbye to those who, with vocation and delivery, left their mark on the country’s public health.
