With the purpose of offering dental care to cancer patients, the Faculty of Medicine (FM) of the Autonomous university of Querétaro (UAQ) launched the program “Smiles with special care”which not only meets the needs of this sector, but also constitutes A valuable educational commitment. Through it, the student has the opportunity to understand the importance of their role as oral health professionals.
During the opening ceremony, the director of the FM, Dr. Rodrigo Miguel González Sánchez, highlighted the importance of this effort and the team behind him, a pioneer in the country to provide care of this nature. Also stressed, its training impact within the university community, strengthening responsibility with the population in vulnerability. It also emphasized the relevance of teaching in the human aspect.
The project coordinator, Rubén Barboza Plascencia, stressed that these require a more specialized dental observation due to the implications of the disease. Therefore, “Smiles with special care “ provides quality services, ensuring accessible costs for those who have recently been diagnosed, as well as those that are already in oncological procedure.
The Coordinator of the Bachelor and Postgraduate in Dentistry of the FM, Dr. María de Lourdes Arvizu Valencia, expressed her pride in the achievements achieved in fundamental areas for social health, such as the assistance of the lip and palate cleft, of sleep disorders and now this, aimed at people with cancer. These actions, he said, also contribute to training human resources with a high sense of collective commitment.
Those interested should approach the UAQ dental clinic – located in Ignacio Zaragoza, Prados de la Capilla, fill a form, have the medical diagnosis and, where appropriate, the treatment documents being performed. There is an important range of activities in which students and teachers intervene, who carry out an initial assessment.
