The president of Chile, Gabriel Boricpromised to unlock during this year the Customs Recognition Treaty between the Mercosur and the Pacific Alliance (AP), at least as regards Chilean participation, before his term ends.
Last Tuesday, by participating in a forum with dozens of Brazilian and Chilean businessmen in the framework of their state visit to Brasiliathe Chilean president asked his team to review “to be able to conclude the Customs Recognition Treaty” between both Latin American blocks, Efe said.
“We have to consolidate, move forward and settle. We have a little less than a year of government,” but “we are going to put everything on our part so that during this 2025, that treaty, at least on our part, is ready,” said Boric having next to his Brazilian counterpart, Lula da Silva.
Likewise, Boric was confident that the National Congress of Chile “Safe” will support said initiative in relation to the pending ratification agreement that seeks to facilitate trade between both blocks through the recognition of security certifications and compliance with customs standards.
In July 2019, the customs agencies of both groups signed an action plan for the mutual recognition agreement and in 2022 the stage II of the aforementioned action plan was completed, with joint validation visits.
The region is excited about having the bioceanic corridor
Boric’s participation in the business forum took place within the framework of his visit to Brazilwhere it was received by Lula to study integration, economic and commercial projects, as well as to review the regional and international agenda.
Boric, whose visit has a state character, also met with entrepreneurs on Wednesday to analyze the ambitious project of the Bioceanic corridorand will return to Chile on Thursday, after offering a conference at the University of Brasilia (UnB).
