The “Argentina LNG” project, led by YPF, seeks to position the country as an important liquefied natural gas exporter (LNG)with a production goal of 28 million tons per year (MTPA) by 2030. This could generate up to USD 15,000 million annually, also adding oil exportwhat the USD 30,000 million could reach, helping to reduce the dollar deficit in Argentina.
The project includes the installation of six offshore liquefaction ships in the San Matías Gulf, in Río Negro. These ships will produce 141 million cubic meters per day of gas, approximately 100% of national production.
The first project of the project will be the start of operations of the Hilli Episeyo ship in 2027with a capacity of 2.45 mtpa. This phase will have the investment of USD 7,000 million in the next 20 years.
From 2028, The project will expand with the Argentine LNG 2 and 3 phases, which will increase the additional 22 MTPA production, with investments of up to USD 12,000 million. YPF is also building four LNG units in China in collaboration with ENI and Shell, which will export up to 20% of national gas production in three years.
This advance in the export of LNGtogether with the beginning of natural gas exports to Brazil, marks a key step for regional energy integration and for the strengthening of the Argentine economy.
