In his federal budget proposal for fiscal year 2026, President Donald Trump has included a controversial and ambitious initiative: the creation of an antimile defense system inspired by the “iron dome” of Israel.
The plan is part of an unprecedented budget increase for the Department of Defense, which would receive additional $ 113 billion.
-Trump had previously expressed his admiration for the Israeli system, which intercepts rockets in full flight and has been crucial in Israel’s defense against attacks from Gaza and Lebanon. In March, during his speech before Congress, the president suggested to create a similar shield: “Israel has it, other countries have it, and the United States should also have it.”
One of the most striking elements of the project is the possible participation of Elon Musk. According to reports from the New York Times and Democratic legislators, the founder of Spacex would be leading technological development through military and aerospace contracts.
