The Plaza Mayor of Ciudad Real has been transformed this Thursday into the literary epicenter of the city with the official inauguration of the Book Fair 2025. With 22 local liber shops, editorials and an outstanding representation of the Guild of editors of Castilla-La Mancha, this edition is presented as one of the most ambitious and participatory, gathering more than 70 authors and a varied agenda of cultural activities.
During the opening, the Councilor for Culture, Pedro Lozano, stressed the value of the book in times marked by technology, referring to his ability to resist even before a blackout. “We return to them at any time. They are always there. It is an object that never fails,” he said, claiming his permanence against digital formats.

This year’s program includes book signatures, storytelling, children’s workshops and adult activities, with proposals for all tastes. Among the participating authors are recognized figures such as Nieves Herrero, Iñaki Díez Martínez, Lucía Chacón and Inma Aguilera, thanks to the collaboration with Penguin Random House. The black, historical novel and children’s and youth literature will be among the most demanded genres, with special attention to local writers.
The Ciudad Real 2025 Book Fair thus reinforces its role as a forum of coexistence around the written word, where readers, authors and book professionals share experiences, knowledge and concerns. At a time when reading is reaffirmed as an essential tool for critical thinking and individual freedom, the city reaffirms its commitment to culture as an integrative element and development engine.
