Lima, May 4 (EFE) .- The National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) of Peru sentenced this Sunday the “cruel murder” of 13 workers of the Powerful Gold mine, in the northern of Pataz, allegedly committed by “illegal mining networks” that, according to society, have unleashed “a wave of terror.”

The SNMPE expressed its solidarity with the relatives of the victims of “this criminal promoted by the networks of illegal mining” and sued the authorities to identify their authors and to be sanctioned with all the weight of the law so that this massacre does not impunity.

In a release, the company added that “the kidnapping and murder of these workers shows that illegal economies seek to intimidate society and assault public and private property, as is the case of formal mining concessions and operations.”

The business union warned that, so far, the Government has not approved the plan to fight illegal mining and even less its budget.

The aggression also pointed out that it is not enough with declarations of emergency states, as applied in Pataz for more than a year, to deal with illegal activities, since “it has been demonstrated that it has no effective .”

In this regard, the SNMPE remarked that it is important that the National Police develop intelligence to dismantle illegal miners that are generating “the worst violence in the country for some decades.”

The company urged the Government and the Parliament to face illegal mining and end the continuous extensions of the Integral Mining Formalization Registry (Reinfo), which has served to “cover up” the illegal activities of illegal miners.
