KANSAS CITY — Jonah Heim hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning and Nathaniel Lowe had an RBI single in the 10th to lead the Texas Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday .
With one out in the 10th inning, Corey Seager hit off James McArthur (1-1) to put runners on first and third. Lowe followed with his third RBI of the series for Dominican Leody Taveras to score.
David Robertson pitched a scoreless 10th inning that included an intentional walk to Bobby Witt Jr. with two outs to seal the Rangers’ victory with his first save of the season.
Kirby Yates (3-0) earned the victory by going two scoreless innings.
It was the third consecutive series won by the Rangers and the sixth in a row that they have won against the Royals since 2021.
“The guys battled and we had some big hits at the end with Heim and Lowe, but you have to look to the mound,” Rangers manager Burce Bochy said. “(Jon) Gray had seven solid innings, Yates gave us a great ninth inning and Robertson came in to close it out.”
For the Rangers, the Dominicans Taveras went 1 for 4 with two runs, Ezequiel Durán went 1 for 3. Cuban Adolis García 5-1.
For the Royals, Puerto Rican MJ Meléndez 4-2. Venezuelan Freddy Fermín 4-1.
