The world of football is in mourning after the departure of César Luis Menotti, legendary coach and emblematic figure of Argentine sports. Who died last Sunday at the age of 85, Menotti received an emotional tribute this Tuesday at the Argentine Football Association (AFA) grounds, where Family, friends and national football figures gathered to say goodbye to a teacher of football.
The farewell was marked by deep sadness and recognition of Menotti’s career. Among those present were former players such as Ubaldo Fillol and Daniel Passarella, world champions in 1978 under the leadership of “Flaco”. Argentine soccer personalities such as Ricardo Bochini, glory of Independiente, and José Pekerman, world champion with youth teams. The president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, visibly moved, accompanied Menotti’s relatives in this last farewell.
One of Menotti’s sons, Alejandro expressed his deep gratitude to the AFA and everyone present for the tribute given to his father.. “Claudio Tapia made sure that my old man lived his last years in the place that he always dreamed of, surely in the place that he loved the most,” declared Alejandro.
Menotti left an indelible legacy in Argentine and international football. As Argentina’s coach, he guided the team to glory in the 1978 World Cup, a triumph that established him as one of the most important strategists in the history of football.
