Barcelona vs. Real Sociedad is the match of the week
Although the LaLiga title is already in the hands of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Girona still have everything at stake. Finishing second would give them the last remaining place for next season’s Spanish Super Cup along with Real Madrid, Athletic Club and Mallorca, whose places in Saudi Arabia are already assured.
The match that closes matchday 35 will be a key one for Barcelona in that very important battle for second place. The Pole now has 17 goals, and shares third place in the first division scoring table. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad’s leading scorer, Mikel Oyarzabal, scored just his ninth and most recent goal four games ago.
For its part, Real Sociedad blanked Las Palmas 2-0 in their last match, and before that, they lost 1-0 against Real Madrid and had two draws, all preceded by three victories. Imanol Alguacil’s men occupy a precarious sixth place, with 54 points, seven less than Athletic – that is, it will be quite difficult for them to catch up – and only two more than Real Betis, which has three wins and a draw in the four dates passed.
Barcelona’s last three rivals after Real Sociedad — Almería, Rayo Vallecano and Sevilla — are from the bottom of the table. Their strong card is LaLiga’s leading scorer Artem Dovbyk, scorer of 20 goals, including one in the victory from last weekend about Barcelona.
