The Serbian Novak Djokovic this Sunday sowed doubt about his condition, after lose to the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (6-3 and 6-2), due to the blow he suffered on the head on Friday when a bottle that a spectator was carrying in a backpack fell on him.
“I have to congratulate Tabilo. It’s the first time I’ve faced him and he’s a great player, with a lot of quality and a very complete game,” Nole said at a press conference after lose to the Chilean, who signed his first victory against a top-10.
“I wasn’t able to find a good feeling on the track, to be honest. I was completely out“, said.
When asked if he believed that the bottle crash may have played a role, he left the door open.
“I don’t know, really. I have to check it out. The training was different. I didn’t feel anything, but I didn’t feel the same as in the last game either.. I’ve been a completely different player than I was two nights ago. Could be. Don’t know. I have to do medical checkups and see what’s happening,” he commented.
And he did not guarantee his presence at Roland Garros: “I have not done any scans or any tests. Right now, I think I should do it, so… I’ll do it and we’ll see. Let’s see what happens“.
The Serbian explained how he experienced the accident: “It was unexpected, obviously. I wasn’t even looking up. Then I felt a very strong blow to the head. It impacted me a lot“.
“I went through half an hour or an hour of nausea, dizziness, blood, a lot of different things. I managed to sleep well, but I had headaches. The next day (Saturday) I was pretty good, so I thought I was fine. Maybe it’s okay. Maybe not,” she added.
“I mean, the way I felt on the court today was completely like a different player had put on my shoes. No rhythm, no tempo, no balance at all on any stroke. It’s a little worrying“, he stated.
