“The player Aníbal Godoy suffered a grade 2 injury to the left rectus femoris, a situation that leaves him out of the next Copa América USA 2024,” FEPAFUT reported in a statement.
Panama City.- The captain of the Panama soccer team Panama, Aníbal Godoy, will not be able to participate in the Copa América in the United States after injured in last Sunday’s friendly match against Paraguayannounced this Tuesday the Panamanian Football Federation (FEPAFUT).
“The player Aníbal Godoy suffered a grade 2 injury to the left rectus femorissituation that leaves him out of the next Copa América USA 2024“, FEPAFUT reported in a statement.
The captain “presented a trauma to his left thigh in the friendly match last Sunday (…) against Paraguay, which led to him being substituted in the 73rd minute of the match,” the federation noted.
The next day, the federation’s medical team performed a MRI with which an injury was confirmed which has already been notified to the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
About the substitute Godoy, the coaching staff, headed by the Spanish-Danish coach Thomas Christiansen“is awaiting authorization from the new player’s club to be able to announce his call-up.”
Panama, in group C of the Copa Américathe pass to the next round will be played with United States, Bolivia and Uruguaythe latter selection with which they will begin their journey in the competition on June 23.
Before Godoy’s injury was confirmed, the coaching staff of the Panamanian team had already had to deal with absences due to injury to defenders Andrés Andrade and Fidel Escobar and forward Cecilio Waterman.
