Colombia played a game with a lot of strong play with Jhon Córdoba as the starter. He sealed qualification to the Copa América quarterfinals with a great goal against Costa Rica.
He is a tank. He rules the area thanks to his definition and ability to get away. His physical power is admirable. Effective in overcoming a rival who exaggerated with fouls. He was overwhelming and fast against the extreme defense that committed a penalty after half an hour. First announcement of its good performance.
Perhaps he had less tactical work than Rafael Borré usually does. He fought between the centre-backs, held them off and threw himself to the right side to overwhelm his full-back with sheer force. He made a precise pass to Luis Díaz, wasted due to a delay in the winger’s definition.
A right-footed assist from James left him one-on-one with goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira. He shot high, unstoppable for his first goal in official matches with the National Team.
“The goal came from a joint effort. We did what we studied during the week,” said the Chocó native.
He played 77′. He shot three times at goal, was successful six times out of nine and cleared the ball three times.
“Happy to contribute, not just the goal. The group is united, the important thing is to win,” he added.
It was the best of the victory that classified Colombia to the quarterfinals. He is a purebred nine.
