The cheap computer with artificial intelligence and the latest video games

A New generation budget PCwith artificial intelligence and ready to enjoy the latest video games, it is possible to buy or build in Argentina, based on the Ryzen 5 8600G processor from the company AMD.

Good, pretty and cheap: with that traditional seller phrase you could characterize this new AMD processorwhich was launched on the market at the last edition of the CES fair in January in the city of Las Vegas.

The firm’s new processors are the Ryzen 7 8700G, Ryzen 5 8600G, Ryzen 5 8500G and the youngest of the house, the Ryzen 3 8300G. This series is completed with the Ryzen 9, the most powerful the company has, intended for desktop computers and the rivals of Intel’s Core i9, a long-standing competition in the microprocessor market.

This family of electronic brains is very interesting because, in addition to having a state-of-the-art processor to solve all logical and mathematical tasks, they have the latest graphics AMD Radeon integrated (APU), so it will not be necessary to buy a video card to enjoy the latest video games.

The latter is not decisive and the general performance of the equipment can be improved with the inclusion of a dedicated graphics cardbut it is a very good option for those who are trying to build a good video game machine and do not have a large budget, or who are considering upgrading the PC soon while enjoying some titles for some time.

At iProfesional we build a PC with a Ryzen 5 8600G to see how he got on with classic video games and also with some newcomer stars. In this note, all the details. The prices mentioned were recorded at the time of writing this note, in the first days of May.

The Ryzen 5 8600G mounted on the ASrock motherboard and the Redragon Tailgate case.

Assembling the economical PC

To assemble the CPU that would later be part of the new setup, a series of components had to be used on a work table. Although the processor would be the heart of this equipment, it is not the only thing that was needed. A motherboard was also needed, RAM and some disk for the storage system.

To get to work, we had a Tailgate cabinet from the Redragon brand that has several advantages: it is spacious and large (it is a full tower model) and also has several lights and fans included.

On their forehead they stand out two lines of LED lights which can vary in color with a button on the front or can be controlled remotely with its remote control. As for its fans, it has a total of five distributed inside and which serve to keep the equipment cool.

Ideal for a setup of these characteristics, a Redragon font 600W which is more than enough to power the entire system of fans, lights and components.

Once the cabinet was disassembled, the motherboard (also known as motherboard) was installed. The one chosen for this team was Asrock B650m-hdv/m.2 which has support for the new AMD processors with the AM5 socket and also some extra benefits.

As a first measure, it is a good motherboard at a competitive price (around $200,000) and includes an expansion port to, in the future, place a next-generation graphics card to take the graphic experience to another level.

Then the Ryzen 5 8600G processor ($300,000 in the local market) was installed, which includes a video card inside, so its price is affordable to build a next-generation computer. The same box includes the AMD factory coolerwhich acts as a heat sink, which must be installed with a little thermal paste on its contact base with the processor.

The companions of this electronic brain were two RAM memories of 16 GB each from the brand KingstonFury Beast model ($190,000) offering a total of 32 GB of RAM at 5600 MHz. Although this equipment can work well and run video games perfectly with 16 GB total, with 32 GB it will make it more spacious, also being prepared for new titles to be released.

Finally, a disk for the storage system. In this type of latest generation computers, the ideal is to install a solid state disk (SSD) M.2 that comes in the form of a board and is installed on the motherboard.

The chosen one was a Kingston SSD Nvme Pcie 4.0 M.2 Snv2s/1000 1 TB, enough space to install Windows 11 along with several games. Then, if you want to expand the storage space, you can place another SSD since the motherboard allows you to accommodate an extra one.

This device also has, thanks to the Asrock motherboard, 7 rear USB 3.2 gen1 ports added to three front ports that, thanks to the Tailgate cabinet, will be on the top, making it easier to connect headphones, pendrives or video game controls. In addition to support for WiFi and a plate Realtek ALC897 Audio 7.1 HD Codec channels.

Something important before any ignition: The motherboard BIOS firmware must be updated to recognize the new AMD processor. This happens because, when this motherboard was released, this new series of micros was not available. To do this process, you will have to install the update on a pendrive and then place it in the specific USB port to install the drivers automatically through the BIOS Flashback process.

Testing in video games

The new Ryzen 5 8600G processor has several features that make it a good option for running games in Full HD. As a first measure, it can accelerate up to 4.3 GHz speed, includes integrated AMD Radeon 700M Series graphics, which allows an increase in performance thanks to proprietary technology AMD HYPER-RX with Fluid Motion Frames at 1080p.

For the more experienced, the option is included Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO)which enables one-touch overclocking to give users an extra CPU boost with higher power limits.

This configuration is enough to enjoy almost any game in Full HD and with fluid movements. In the tests carried out, a little more was required but, of course, to raise the proposal and play in 4K it will be necessary to install a dedicated high-performance graphics card like the new one. Radeon 7900 GRE. To audit the results, MSI’s popular Afterburner software was used.

To start demanding AMD’s new electronic brain, it was put to the test with one of the most demanding titles today: Alan Wake 2. Graphics were set to medium (some things on low quality) to gain some fluidity. The result was about 38 frames per second (FPS) of fluidity, passing the test of the minimum 30 FPS (although the ideal is above 60 FPS) that are needed to enjoy without the game crashing.

In CyberPunk 2077 frames reached 60 with graphics on low quality and dropped to 40 when some effects were activated. In the popular Fortnite, just over 100 FPS was achieved with medium-level graphics and with the GPU quite rested and effortlessly running at 70%.

Finally, the recently arrived Playstation port was tested, the Horizon Forbidden West in Full HD, which reached 60 FPS with the “quality” option active. In all cases, both the temperatures (the great enemy of technological components) of the processor and the integrated graphics card did not exceed 65°.

Conclusion

The new Ryzen 5 8600G processor is a great option for those who want to build a next-generation gaming machine and they don’t have the money to buy a dedicated video card.

The integrated Radeon 760M graphics more than meets the requirements and allows you to enjoy the latest video games released on the market. Furthermore, with this configuration of cheap PCthe future update is possible by offering a scalable option over time.
