When the technology company Huawei launched its new Pura 70 (P70) series of smartphones in mid-April in China, it took the first step in its strategy for support the good moment it is going through.

According to a recent report, the technology giant multiplied its year-on-year net profit more than six times in the first quarter of this year, despite US sanctions that deprive it of technology from that country. Huawei obtained a net profit of 2.5 billion dollars, which means a 564% increase in its profits in one year.

The controversy with the government of the North American country is key to understanding the brand’s move. For several years, the Asian company has been at the center of an intense technological rivalry between Beijing and Washington, due to accusations of espionage for the Chinese authorities, which the company has always denied.

In 2019, the conflict escalated and the US imposed sanctions that have isolated the company from global supply chains of US technologies and components, so Huawei had to refocus its activity on sectors such as software, connected devices or business computing.

Now, almost five years later, the Shenzhen-based company hopes to get back into the game and to do so it is deploying a catalog of products that would boost its sales in 2024. To compete with the main player in the market, Apple, now presents its new series of smartphones and a smartwatch.
