There is already a game that requires an RTX 4090 to play at 4K and 60 FPS

Just a few weeks ago we spoke to you in an opinion article that PC video games are increasingly demanding in terms of hardware requirements, and many times that does not translate into better performance because, really, if they ask for so many requirements it is for one bad optimization. Well, now we have the first game on the market that directly lists a RTX 4090the most powerful graphics card on the market today, as necessary to be able to play at 4K resolution and 60 FPS.

We are not going to venture to say that requiring a graphics card worth more than €2,000 to play at 4K is due to poor optimization because we don’t really know, but the news here is the fact that they precisely do it. Is about Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crownwhich has just released a playable demo on Steam while also publishing its minimum and recommended requirements to play.

The first game that calls for an RTX 4090

Although its official launch has been set for September 12, 2024, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown already has a playable demo for PC, and its technical requirements are nothing short of… demanding. These have come to us in the form of a press release, and for some reason they are not published as such on Steam at the moment, but we have compiled them below in the form of a table so that you can see them.

Minimum requirements (720p at 30 FPS with graphics on low) Recommended requirements (1080p at 60 FPS with graphics on medium) Recommended requirements (1440p at 60 FPS with high graphics) Recommended requirements (4K at 60 FPS with ultra graphics)
Processor Intel Core i7-6700K / AMD Ryzen 7 1800X Intel Core i7-10700K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Intel Core i5-12600K / AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Intel Core i9-14900K / AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
RAM 12GB 12GB 16 GB 32GB
Graphic card GTX 1060 6GB / Radeon RX 480 8GB RTX 2080 / Radeon RX 6700 RTX 4070 / Radeon RX 6900 XT RTX 4090
OS Windows 10 Windows 10 Windows 10 Windows 10
Disc space 50GB 50GB 50GB 50GB

It is undeniable that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown looks impressive, but so is the fact that its technical requirements to play at 4K resolution and 60 FPS with maximum graphics are really high, since if we start to do the math we would be facing a PC of about 4,000 euros or so.

Also, we personally find the requirements a little strange in some cases; For example, to play at 1080p with the graphics on medium it requires an Intel Core i7-10700K processor (8 cores and 16 threads), but to go to 1440p with the graphics on high it requires a Core i5-12600K (10 cores ( 6 P and 4 E) and 16 threads) which is actually inferior due to having a lower number of P cores. On the other hand, does going from 1440p in high to 4K in ultra double the consumption of RAM? Goes from 16 to 32 GB required.

Try it yourself in its playable demo

Be that as it may, you yourselves can now try how this game works on your PC, whether you have an RTX 4090 or not, since as we said before they have just released their playable demo for PC through Steam (you have it linked at the bottom of this article), although yes, only until June 17.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown will arrive in its final version on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series By the way, as a curiosity it should be noted that one of the “circuits” of this game consists of an exact 1:1 recreation of the city of Hong Kong, which is no small feat.
