Review | HP Omen 16: A gamer notebook for those who prefer a sober appearance

A notebook that looks quite normal on the outside, but given its different components can work without problems even with the most demanding games, This is the reality of the HP Omen 16, a notebook that, with a sober design, ideal for those who do not like to attract attention, it has the necessary power either to play or use different editing programs.

The first thing to comment on this notebook is its design, and that is that In this notebook we find a black laptop, quite sober and that on its exterior side has no more details than the word OMEN. This gives it a fairly simple and elegant appearance, ideal for those who want a gaming notebook that does not stand out or shine everywhere. One point against its cover is that fingers mark it too easily, so you will have to constantly clean it if you want it to look impeccable at all times.

Along the same lines, when we open it we find a notebook that only has the number ’16’ engraved on one side in black, so it doesn’t stand out much either. In addition, we find a keyboard that is quite comfortable to use, which it must be mentioned does not have a numeric keypad, something that can be a bit uncomfortable if you are used to using it. Something that I don’t like at all in this notebook and that also happens with other HP laptops, is including the on and off button between the keyboard keys, immediately after F12. Although this is a personal opinion, given its position and the fact that it has keys on both sides, it could lead to a ‘miss click’.

At the top the power button between the F12 and Del keys.

Neither so big nor so small…

Regarding the size and weight of this notebook, it must be said that we are average for laptops, Since it is not a mega heavy notebook but neither is it the lightest one on the market.this is how the HP Omen 16 has a weight of 2.35 kg, something that is quite good considering its capabilities and the components that make it up and that measures 36.9 x 25.94 x 2.39 cm.

As for battery life, this notebook has three modes, giving a duration of just over six hours in balanced mode, It could be a little more or less if you use it in ECO or performance mode.

A quite striking aspect of this is that it comes accompanied by the HP Creator 16 suitcase, which allows you to store the 16-inch notebook and has a huge amount of space and compartments, pIdeally suited for those who travel with cameras, lenses, microphones or other technological objects.

As for its ports, we get three USB ports, a 3.5 jack input for audio and microphone, a USB-C port, an HDMI 2.1 input and the power input. It is worth mentioning that in terms of connectors, the notebook has enough, since it allows you to connect several devices at the same time, perhaps the biggest problem is if you want to use multiple devices with a USB-C connection, something that is increasingly common in the Nowadays, either for external storage drives or charge your phone, since you only have one.

Likewise, an element that draws attention is that HP has not yet adopted USB-C for charging its notebooks, still using a normal connector, something that could have solved the issue of the lack of connectors of this type.

The most important thing is its components…

But let’s go to its components, The HP OMEN 16 that we had the opportunity to test comes equipped with a 13th generation Intel I7 processor, orAn NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card, 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD, thus allowing the vast majority of games to run smoothly and without major inconveniences. Perhaps the biggest problem is that in really demanding games the performance may not be the best, but you can still enjoy them, especially if it has technologies such as Nvidia DLSS, which is available for the graphics card that comes with the notebook. and allows you to improve gaming performance.

As for the screen, it must be mentioned that it is good, but it is not the best that can be found in a notebook. This is how we find a 16.1″ FHD screen with a 1920×1080 resolution, with an IPS panel and a 144Hz refresh rate. In this regard, it should be mentioned that although the screen is good and the refresh rate meets what is necessary to play competitive games like Valorant or Counter-Strike, today there are many games that are enjoyed more on screens with 2K or 4K resolutions, But taking into account the capabilities of the notebook, it is understandable that we would not want to go one step further.

Finally in relation to sound, this laptop has audio from Bang & Olufsen, the brand that HP usually works with and is accompanied by dual speakers and an integrated microphone, which work perfectly, so you can even Use without major problems in video calls or to talk on Discord with your friends while you play.

In conclusion…

The HP Omen 16 is a notebook with a sober appearance, quite attractive, that does not stand out in its visual appearance but does stand out when you see its components, being an ideal laptop for gamers or those who enjoy creating content , since with the accompanying backpack it is perfect for transporting it from one place to another along with the other components you need. Perhaps the lowest aspect of this notebook is its screen, which could have been a little better in terms of resolution.
