In Double Exposure you can start the story based on which ending you chose in 2015, since its script accepts both equally
One of the surprises of the Xbox Games Showcase was the return of Life is Strange. In a recent stream of the American team to show the first gameplay of the game, Deck Nine shed light on some details of this new installment. Jonathan Stauder, game director, explained that The Double Exposure script has been based on the two possible endings. Instead of, as many projects do, limiting themselves to creating a narrative based on the canon ending (which never existed), the Americans have chosen a double starting point. “It was very important to us at Deck Nine that if we were going to do another Max adventure, the game would have to honor both endings, and Double Exposure does just that,” Stauder said.
According to Stauder, players will be able to choose the ending they prefer at the beginning of Double Exposure and continue the plot from there. But as will be? Far from having created two stories with variations, they will be small tangential moments those that reflect, through Max’s thoughtshis diary either interactions with other characters, what ending we have chosen. For example, Felice Kuan, narrative director, clarified that there is a scene at the beginning of the game where a conversation between Safi and Max allows players to revisit their decision about the ending of the first game.
For his part, Stauder emphasized something that we already knew, or at least sensed, a long time ago: there is no canonical ending and nine years later it has not changed. This is something that has been on the minds of players since its premiere in 2015, and that is that although the license has expanded, both endings have remained two equally possible alternatives instead of the classic “good ending and bad ending”.
