Honor has presented its first folding clamshell smartphone, following the global launches yesterday of the Honor 200, Honor 200 Pro and MagicBook Pro 16. By the way, the Magic V Flip is the first foldable smartphone that Honor has launched since the Magic V2, which arrived ago almost a year sporting a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Logically, one would expect Honor to equip the Magic V Flip with the same or newer chipset, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Surprisingly, the company has opted for the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 that equips the Galaxy Z Flip4 (currently $278 refurbished on Amazon). However, the Magic V Flip is still quite expensive at CNY 4,999 (~$689) with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Alternatively, Honor offers the device with 512GB or 1TB of storage for CNY 5,499 (~$758) and CNY 5,999 (~$827) respectively, both with 12GB of RAM.

Additionally, all variants of the Magic V Flip feature a 4-inch LTPO OLED covered display that supports variable refresh rates from 0.1-120Hz, as well as a 6.8-inch foldable AMOLED display that also reaches 120Hz with an LTPO backplane. For reference, the larger screen has a native resolution of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and offers up to 3,000 nits of maximum brightness. In addition, Honor equips the phone with a 4,800 mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging and a 50 MP main camera that is joined by 50 MP selfie and 12 MP ultra-wide-angle cameras. Although Honor hasn’t mentioned a global launch yet, there’s a good chance the Magic V Flip will be available outside of China at some point.
